Both Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld executed extensive preparation programmes and eventually finished eighth and eighteenth respectively.

Robert, the faster of the BMW Sauber F1 Team pairing, took sixth on the timesheets with his first flying lap, and throughout the session he held a top-eight position. While many of the other drivers used the closing stages of the session to set competitive lap times, the Pole was on a 10-lap long-run. He set his fastest time of 1:40.149 minutes on his 25th lap and settled for finishing eighth on the time sheets.

As in the morning session, Nick wasn't able to fully match the pace of his team-mate. Like Robert he focused on gathering more data and continuing his preparation work for the remainder of the weekend and therefore he also drove a long-run in the closing stages of the session. He set his fastest lap time of 1:41.084 minutes on his 28th lap and finished 18th on the time sheets.
