"I like driving in the rain," says Nick. And he has often demonstrated
that this statement is far from just an idle claim. After all, the
31-year-old secured some of his best results in the wet. The latest
example: Silverstone. In the British Grand Prix, held in torrential
rain, Nick was one of the very few drivers who didn't encounter a
single off-track moment during the race. He kept his cool, worked his
way up the field and in the end he finished runner-up behind McLaren's
race winner, Lewis Hamilton.
"Even in my karting days I liked driving in the rain best," reveals
Nick. "My brother Sven and I always preferred to go out on the track
when it wasn't that full - and that used to be the case when it was
raining. And in Germany the rain falls all too often."
"You have to opt for a positive approach," says Nick, explaining his
special point of view regarding wet races. "If you say: 'Damn, it's
raining,' you are tense right from the start. And if you make a minor
mistake with this approach, you tend to say, 'I knew this would
happen.' But if you like racing in the wet, you won't even begin
thinking about these kind of issues."
