Kubica's "home race" renewed till 2016
By BMW Sauber F1 Team
August 7 2008
The organisers of the Hungarian Grand Prix have extended their contract with Bernie Ecclestone by another five years. Consequently, the Hungarian Grand Prix will remain on the Formula One calendar up to and including at least 2016. An extension that should delight the Polish supporters of Robert Kubica in particular.
Traditionally, the Hungarian Grand Prix is regarded as a kind of a 'home Grand Prix', for Robert. After all, no other circuit on the calendar is located as close to the BMW Sauber F1 Team driver's native Poland as the "Hungaroring". Therefore, it didn't come as a huge surprise that this year's race at Budapest was once again attended by a large number of the 23-year old's compatriots, all wanting to witness him racing the BMW Sauber F1.08 on the tight and twisting race-track.

The 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix even achieved a new attendance record. 250,000 motor-racing enthusiasts made the trip to the "Hungaroring". According to government spokesman David Daroczi, "10 to 15 per cent more than last year." Since its debut back in 1986, the Hungarian World Championship round has never witnessed such a huge crowd.
